Two decades of making music

Since its debut at the "Grad Theatre - Budva" festival in 2003, "Rubicon" has established itself as one of the highest quality chamber ensembles in Serbia. After this debut, a tour of Serbia and Montenegro followed, with performances in the most prestigious concert halls in the country. The rise of the "Rubicon" quartet on a national scale included concerts at BEMUS (2005), NOMUS (2006), and in the Belgrade Philharmonic Hall (2007). A notable performance was the concert within the cycle "Giants of the Music Scene" of the Ilija M. Kolarac Endowment with pianist Itamar Golan (2011). By performing at the festival in Sion (Switzerland) in 2005, "Rubicon" made a breakthrough on the international scene. Among the most important foreign concerts are performances at the City of London Festival (2012) and at the Bamberg Festival (2012).

The "Rubicon" String Quartet has collaborated with artists such as violinists Shlomo Mintz and Grigory Zhislin, pianists Itamar Golan, Lionel Monnet, Ratimir Martinović, and Vladimir Milošević, guitarist Dušan Bogdanović, clarinetist Aleksandar Tasić, and others. The ensemble's repertoire was very extensive and encompassed compositions in a stylistic range from classicism to contemporary achievements. The quartet has made numerous recordings for radio and television, collaborating, among others, with Grigory Zhislin and Itamar Golan.

After a few years of hiatus, in 2020, the Rubicon Quartet reassembled and achieved significant performances at the "Ravanelius" festival, as well as at the "Ledamus" festival.

Today, as at the very beginning, the quartet is comprised of our most prominent musicians who enjoy prominent positions both as performers and as educators. On the first violin is Robert Lakatoš, a violin professor at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, followed by Marko Josifoski, a violin professor at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade. On the second violin, there is Jožef Bisak, a chamber music professor at the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade , and Dragan Đorđević, a cello professor at the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade, who, along with violinist Roman Simović, founded the Rubicon quartet exactly two decades ago.
